Ionian Dancing Girl

“Ionian Dancing Girl” Original by John William Godward  24″x36″ reproduced by Alexei King Offers in the region of $1800

Beautiful reproduction by Alexei King of one of John Godwards Greek fair maidens for which he gained such a high reputation in the early Nineteen Hundreds . Godward who was a protégé of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema was a Victorian Neo-classicist artist and painted in the style reffed to as either the “Marbalist School” or the “Olympian School”  this basicaly means that he had penchant for the rendering of Classical architecture, in particular, static landscape features constructed from marble. The vast majority of Godward’s images feature women in Classical dress, posed against these landscape features, though there are some semi-nude and fully nude figures as in “The Ionian Dancing Girl” on offer here.
